Gascoigne not to Return to Gansu Until Payment of Wages

Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne will not return to Chinese second division team Gansu Tianma until he is paid back-dated wages.

Former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne will not return to Chinese second division team Gansu Tianma until he is paid back-dated wages.

Gascoigne, who entered an Arizona clinic in April after suffering from depression, signed a one-year renewable contract tobecome player-coach at Gansu in January.

The 36-year-old was due back at the club on June 10 but has notreturned to China, prompting Gansu on Monday to ask the Chinese Football Association to investigate what they consider a breach ofcontract.

"Paul is owed money by Gansu and will not be going back until the matter is resolved," his agent, Wes Saunders, said, according to English sports broadcaster Sky Sports on Tuesday.

Explaining Gascoigne's absence, Saunders said the player has remained in England because of a dispute over unpaid wages and payment for commercial activities.

"Gansu know that Paul has grievances about his salary," he said."He has not ruled out going back but we would need assurances thatthe club can honor their financial commitments to him."
