Chinese President Meets French Defense Minister
China will work with the international community, including France, to promote multi-polarization, democratization of international relations, and globalization for the benefit of all, said President Hu Jintao at a meeting with visiting French Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie and her party Monday afternoon.

President Hu pointed to the steady growth of all-round bilateral partnership in recent years, citing the constant contacts between leaders of the two countries, fruitful exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and sound cooperation in international affairs.
He also recalled his successful meeting with French President Jacques Chirac during the informal South-North leaders dialogue meeting on June 1 in Evian of France.
President Hu said he reached wide-ranging consensus with President Chirac on further expanding bilateral exchanges and cooperation and continuing to advance the further development of Sino-French and Sino-European relations.
Alliot-Marie said that France hoped to further bilateral friendly, long-term exchanges and cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, culture and security. France maintained that the continuous growth of bilateral relations not only complied with the international trend and but conformed to the common aspirations of the people of both countries, she added.
