HK to host Forbes Global CEO Conference in 2004

Hong Kong has been selected as the host city of the annual Forbes Global CEO Conference in spring 2004, the leading business magazine Forbes announced here Saturday.

Hong Kong has been selected as the host city of the annual Forbes Global CEO Conference in spring 2004, the leading business magazine Forbes announced here Saturday.

It is the second time that this conference will come to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Steve Forbes, president, CEO and editor-in-chief of Forbes, andMike Rowse, Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, held a signing ceremony on Saturday to announce Hong Kong as the city of choice for this international event.

Attending the ceremony, Financial Secretary Antony Leung said that the choice of Forbes has sent an important message to the world that Hong Kong is a safe and vibrant city, and has shown investors' confidence in Hong Kong.

"The fact that this will be the third year in a row that we arehosting this event in China -- Hong Kong last year, Shanghai this year and Hong Kong next year -- is testimony to the growing importance of the China market to the global economy," said Steve Forbes.

Hong Kong, the gateway to China's mainland and a model to othereconomies for its low income tax rate regime, is an ideal locationto bring together business leaders from around the world, said Forbes.

He added that Hong Kong has exhibited its strength in the fightagainst SARS. "The trouble of Hong Kong is over. The city will return to the forefront of entrepreneurs."

The Forbes Global CEO Conference 2004 will attract regional andglobal CEOs, as well as other senior executives from Asia, Europe and the United States.

This year, the conference is scheduled to be held in Shanghai from Sept. 16 to Sept. 18.
