Cooperation Between HK, Chinese Mainland to be Closer

Chief Executive of the Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region government, Tung Chee Hwa said Friday that with the signing of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland will be closer.

Chief Executive of the Hong KongSpecial Administrative Region government, Tung Chee Hwa said Friday that with the signing of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), cooperation between Hong Kong and the mainland will be closer.

"With the signing of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA), we anticipate that our cooperation with the (Chinese) mainland, in particular Guangdong Province, will enter a new phase," said Tung.

Tung had met the Guangdong Provincial Governor Huang Huahua in Beijing in March. They decided to hold the sixth Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference in Hong Kong early next month, according to a Hong Kong government press release issued Friday.

"After discussions with the central and provincial governments,we have decided to upgrade the leadership level of the Hong Kong-Guangdong Cooperation Joint Conference. From now on, the joint conference will be chaired by myself and the Guangdong governor," Tung Chee Hwa said.
