Railway Construction Workers Trapped by Flood in Tibet

Over 60 construction workers are trapped by a flood at the construction site of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway at the Tanggula Range, where torrential rain has been falling.

Over 60 construction workers are trapped by a flood at the construction site of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway at the Tanggula Range, where torrential rain has been falling.

The railway construction headquarters received the distress call Wednesday night and rescue work was immediately organized, according to Lu Chunfang, director general at the headquarters.

A rescue group from the People's Liberation Army garrison at Lhasa, capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, was sent to the scene early Thursday morning. The Tanggula Range is over 500 kilometers away from Lhasa.

Nearby construction teams have also been asked to do their bestto send oxygen bottles and food to the trapped workers.

By press time, there has been no detailed report of the trappedworkers being rescued.
