Zurich announced plan to bid to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games on Wednesday. The plan is to go before the Swiss Olympic Committee on July 8.
Switzerland tried to bring the 2010 Games to Berne but had to pull out last September when a public referendum in the city ruined the project over cash concerns.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) decides the 2010 hosts on July 2 when it has to choose between Vancouver, Austria's Salzburg and South Korea's Pyeongchang.
Swiss Olympic Committee spokesman Daniel Steiner said: "With the 2006 Games already going to Turin in Italy, the IOC is unlikely to give the Games to a country in the Alps for a third time."
"But we will have a good chance if the 2010 decision goes to Vancouver," he added.
