Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmed Al Bashir has sent a special message to his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni on relations between the two neighboring countries.

The message was delivered to Ugandan Minister of State for International Cooperation Tom Butime on Tuesday by Sudanese Charged'Affaires in Kampala Yousif Ngor, according to a press release issued by the Ugandan Foreign Ministry.

Ngor said his government was concerned over the recent press reports of alleged contact and supply of weapons to the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.

He reiterated the Sudanese government commitment to establishing a strong and stable relationship with Uganda aimed at bringing peace between the two countries and the region.

Butime, on his part on receiving the message on behalf of the president, said such issues would be addressed following the proper channels.

It was recalled that Museveni accused the Sudanese government of secretly arming the LRA rebels and fueling the insurgency in northern Uganda in a bid to expand her border when he visited United States ten days ago.

Uganda severed relations with the Sudan in 1994 after the two governments accused each other of funding rebels fighting them. But the relations had lately improved and Uganda was allowed last year to pursue the LRA rebels inside the Sudan.
