Railway passenger volume is picking up in China, with the daily volume reaching more than two million people, thanks to the effective control of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
According to Hu Wei, an official with the Ministry of Railways, the epidemic had severely affected China's railway operations since April, leading to a continuous drop in the passenger volume.
Though falling short of last year's average of 2.4 to 2.5 million passengers per day during the corresponding period, since May 15, passenger numbers have been climbing steadily, reaching 2.081 million on Sunday, the second consecutive 2 million-plus day, Hu said.
