The Deputy Director of Beijing's Public Heath Bureau Liang Wannian said the travel advisory on the city may soon be lifted by the World Health Organization.

The official said there are altogether 46 confirmed SARS patients in Beijing's hospitals. This is below the WHO's maximum of sixty patients, above which an advisory cannot be lifted.

The official said that most of the patients have been kept in the hospitals for twenty days and are no longer infectious, while more than half are being treated for other diseases.

Liang said Beijing has sent an evaluation report to the WHO calling on it to lift its travel advisory while SARS work continues in the capital.
