As Hong Kong has officially been removed from the list of SARS-affected areas by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday, the MacLehose Holiday Village will cease to operate as an isolation center.

"The once designated isolation center will be returned to Leisure and Cultural Services Department Tuesday to resume its role as a holiday camp," a government spokesman was quoted by a gazette released on Monday as saying.

The camp was designated in April as one of the three isolation centers during the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) to accommodate people who had contacted with SARS patients. The other two centers were in Sai Kung and Lei Yue Mun, respectively.

During the outbreak, a total of 176 people from 70 households were relocated to Lady MacLehose Holiday Village for their isolation period, which normally was 10 days.

After the return of Lady MacLehose camp, all future camp confinees will be assigned to the Tai Mei Tuk Bungalows.
