China's quarantine departments have been put on the alert for the possible entry of cholera from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine declared Monday all quarantine departments shall take effective measures to guard against the disease.

According the World Health Organization, the DRC had reported 13,452 cases of cholera and 380 deaths from the illness by Jun. 8, with a morality rate of 2.82 percent.

People from the DRC shall report immediately to the quarantine departments if they have symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea and necessary measures are to be taken on the suspect and possible cases, says an announcement from the GAQSIQ.

Conveyance, cargo, luggage, containers and mail from the DRC shall be examined and disinfected carefully. The unloading of foods without a valid quarantine licence, including aquatic products, fruits, vegetables and drinks, is prohibited.

Quarantine institutions and health care centers will provide health care services and the latest information on the disease for people leaving for the DRC.
