Chairman of China's Central Military Commission Jiang Zemin has signed a circular order citing service men and women for their achievement in the Xiaotangshan severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) designated hospital.
The circular said officers and soldiers in Xiaotangshan had fulfilled their commission and met their obligations during the past 50 days in the fight against SARS, making great achievements in protecting people's health and safety.
The circular called on the entire People's Liberation Army and armed forces to learn from those who provided health care and medical treatment to SARS patients in Xiaotangshan and continue to strive for the army's further modernization.
A total of 1,383 military doctors and nurses have been transferred from 114 military hospitals to Xiaotangshan hospital to help fight SARS after April 25 when the epidemic had infected many people in Beijing, China's capital.
The hospital discharged its last 18 recovered SARS patients on Friday.
