A new shipping line between south China's Xiamen port and the Mediterranean opened on Saturday evening.

In order to shorten the travel time between the ports, China International Ocean Shipping Container Co, under China Marine Transport Group, will run the 17-day voyage twice a week.

Shipping routes between China and Europe have become increasingly busy in recent years as trade volume has risen sharply.
