China is deeply concerned over a US primary judgment asserting that imported Chinese color TV sets caused substantial damage to domestic US industry, a senior Ministry of Commerce (MOC) official said Friday.

The judgment was made by the US International Trade Commission (USITC) as China closely followed the dumping allegation and started consultation with US officials.

The US Department of Commerce initiated the case on May 22, noted an official in charge of the MOC's fair trade bureau.

The US allegation did not represent the interests of the entireUS color TV set industry, he acknowledged, and it was difficult toprove a causative link to Chinese TV set imports.

The US side failed to give the Chinese enterprises under investigation the right to prove the market economy status in their manufacture and sale sectors, the official said, but took a third country's price as reference.

"This practice breached the protocol signed when China joined the World Trade Organization and was not objective and unfair to the Chinese color Television industry as a whole."

China hoped that the U.S. could improve its current practices and give a fair and rational judgment on the case, the official said.
