Chinese, Thai Business People Discuss Economic Cooperation
Some Chinese business delegates and a visiting Thai economic delegation discussed the Sino-Thai future economic and trade cooperation Thursday in Beijing.

The discussion was a follow-up of the cooperative agreement and memorandum concerning trade, investment, information exchanges and delegation visits signed by the trade promotion organizations of the two countries Wednesday.
In addressing the forum, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said the Chinese government took effective measures in battle against the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
He extended congratulations towards China's achievement in economic development, noting that together with the Chinese government, the Thai government will push forward the all-level exchanges between the two governments, business circles and non-government organizations.
President Wan Jifei of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) briefed Thai guests on China's currenteconomic situation, saying that China's economy and social life are in normal situation and the trade and investment environment is secure and good.
Thailand is China's third largest trade partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). By the end of 2002,Thailand had had over 3100 investment projects in China, involving contracted investment of about 5.7 billion US dollars, while Chinahad set up more than 230 businesses in Thailand, with a total contracted investment of 230 million US dollars.
