China, Thailand Broaden Cooperation in Health Issues
Senior health officials of China and Thailand agreed here Wednesday to enhance cooperation in fields such as SARS control, food safety and application of traditional Chinese herbal medicines.

Sudarat Keyuraphan, Thai Minister of Public Health, has also invited her Chinese counterpart to a meeting of health ministers from members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forumon Jun. 28 in Thailand.
"China's experience in preventing and containing severe acute respiratory syndrome should be shared internationally during the meeting," Sudarat said during a meeting with Chinese Vice Health Minister Huang Jiefu.
Sudarat, who is visiting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister SomkidJatusripitak, said the battle against SARS should involve regionaland worldwide collaboration, and China's progress should be regarded as a contribution to the world.
Huang briefed Sudarat on steps China had taken to control the SARS outbreak, to treat patients, and to improve national systems of response to public health emergencies.
The health ministries of the two countries agreed to cooperate on food safety issues, particularly in the establishment and adoption of food safety standards, which are increasingly vital inthe global food trade.
The officials also reviewed Chinese-Thai collaboration in the clinical treatment of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis by using traditional Chinese herbal medicines, which are said to be yielding promising results.
In another meeting with senior officials of China's State Food and Drug Administration, Sudarat proposed expanding cooperation instandardizing the use of traditional Chinese herbal medicines, registering new drugs, and the pharmaceutical treatment of drug addicts.
