China and Thailand plan to cooperate to rejuvenate the Asian tourism market, which has suffered a grave shock since the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) outbreak.
Tourism operators from the two countries signed accords and held a seminar in Beijing on Wednesday, in a hope of overcoming the negative impact brought about by the SARS virus.
The two nations planned to jointly explore bilateral cultural and tourism resources, and go in for global promotion in order to attract foreign tourists.
The two nations will also create good conditions for bilateral long-term cooperation in tourism, encourage exchanges in tourism management and operation, and provide mutual help in training and human resource management. China and Thailand will encourage theircitizens to travel to the other country and develop reasonably priced high-quality tourism products.
Representatives from nine Chinese travel agencies noted that they would enhance cooperation with their Thai counterparts by refraining from price cutting, and would aim to increase the number of tourists.
"Both China and Thailand are big tourism nations, enjoying long-term cooperation, and SARS dealt a heavy blow for Asian tourism. We should join hands in managing the tourism market by making it more sound, healthy and civilized as well as enhance the overall level of tourism," said Yu Changjiang, director of Beijing Municipal Tourism Administration.
Two nations should jointly rejuvenate tourism, step up cooperation in tourism and aviation, and provide good services fortourists, said Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who was currently visiting China.
