China Concerns over Sexual Harassment of Women

The All-China Women's Federation has begun an investigation into sexual harassment in order to persuade China's top legislature to modify the law on protection of women's rights and interests.

The All-China Women's Federation has begun an investigation into sexual harassment in order to persuade China's top legislature to modify the law on protection of women's rights and interests.

A recent survey of Beijing residents shows that sexual harassment is very common among females. It has attracted the attention of the entire society.

On June 9, a female teacher in central China's Wuhan City won a landmark sexual harassment case against her former boss. It was believed to be the first time that a plaintiff has won a sexual harassment suit. Meanwhile, the first sexual harassment case in Beijing is under investigation.

China has no special laws on sexual harassment. "Sexual harassment should be taken into consideration in the amendment of the law concerning protection of women's rights and interests," said Ma Yinan, professor at the law school of Beijing University.
