Private universities and colleges in the national capital of Beijing have sworn to be honest and straight forward in their advertising for this year's recruitment.

Thirty-seven such universities of the 112 registered in the city of Beijing on Sunday signed a pact promising to run their schools according to the law, guaranteeing education quality, zealously offering services for the students and respecting their options.

The pact demands that the universities and colleges respect their students' selections for majors, and that tuition fees are given back to students who discontinue their studies for appropriate reasons.

The universities were also required to honestly publicize their teaching conditions, levels, types, diplomas, and all conditions of tuition.

At present, there are both honest and dishonest private institutions of higher learning in the municipality and a laxity of discipline and direction imposed by professional associations, has led to unruly competition and internal friction in the educational market.

Relevant Laws on Promoting Development of Private Universities, scheduled to be put into force on September 1, will signal a new era for private universities and colleges in the country.
