About 59 percent of the Spaniards believe that the image of the country worsened with the country's support for the US-led war in Iraq, according to an opinion poll released on Saturday.
About 59 percent of the Spaniards believe that the image of the country worsened with the country's support for the US-led war in Iraq, according to an opinion poll released on Saturday.
The poll, made by the Elcano Institute of International and Strategic Studies in May, revealed that most Spaniards are of the view that the war in Iraq tarnished the image of Spain in the world, but increased its political power.
Ten percent of those polled think that Spanish power has increased by 4.3 percent and 4.9 percent with the Iraq war and will keep on growing if the country continues to seek greater aspirations.
For 77 percent of the Spaniards polled, it was illegitimate that the international community imposed democracy on a country and that it would be better to proceed with a change through peaceful means.
Most of those polled maintain that it is illegitimate that a country attacks another just because the former feels threatened.
Britain and Spain were the United States' firmest allies in itswar against Iraq.
