Labeled himself as "good propagandist of this continent," South African President Thabo Mbeki said in Durban Thursday that Africa was moving forward and there were positive changes in the land.
Speaking at a plenary session of the ongoing Africa Economic Summit in the South African coastal city of Durban, Mbeki said he was optimistic about the African continent.
"The whole situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) was moving forward.. there set to be a transitional government in the DRC, there set to be a transitional parliament in the country," he said.
"Look at Burundi, things are better; and the Sudan, only several years ago, it is hopeless. They are all moving forward," he added.
Not only the peace and reconciliation in several African countries were the positive trend on the continent, the founding of the African Union and the legal rights of the organization to give sanctions to bad behavior of its members were also a progress, the president said.
Mbeki acknowledged that Africa needs financial support from theinternational community. He used the DRC as an example, saying that the country could only cover half of its budget for the executive branch of the transitional government.
More than 600 participants from 40 countries are gathering in Durban to attend the meeting, which focus on the New Partnership for Africa's Development, a regeneration plan for Africa.
