ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting Ends in Myanmar

The two-day meeting of senior economic officials (SEO) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ended here Wednesday evening.

The two-day meeting of senior economic officials (SEO) of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) ended here Wednesday evening.

The SEO meeting discussed matters relating to the ASEAN-Japan economic partnership, ASEAN-India economic relations, the establishment of (ASEAN+3) East Asia free trade area, the implementation of coordination on ASEAN+US (United States) trade investment and the establishment of ASEAN-China free trade area.

The discussions also covered the meeting on ASEAN economy and investment to be held in Thailand in October and the establishmentof the Task Force for Asia-Europe Close Economic Partnership.

The meeting outlined plans for holding the Special Meeting and the 35th Meeting of ASEAN Economic Ministers in July.

The meeting decided that the next SEO Meeting will be held in Singapore from July 29 to August 1.

The present ASEAN SEO meeting, which began on Tuesday, was attended by ASEAN Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong and representatives of member countries of ASEAN, which groups Brunei,Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
