Settlement of DPRK's Nuclear Issue Impossible Without Russia:Official
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov on Wednesday ruled out the possibility that Russia could be ousted in resolving the nuclear crisis in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov on Wednesday ruled out the possibility that Russia could be ousted in resolving the nuclear crisis in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
"None of the issues involving the DPRK can be resolved without consideration of Russia's interests and its participation. This isunequivocal and clear," Losyukov said at a briefing in Moscow.
"To say that Russia is being driven out or not let into this process means one has no idea about it, or about Russia's work towards settlement of the Korean problem," he said.
"We are actively involved in the process. We maintain an intensive dialogue with North Korea's leadership, and this channel is functioning. Also, we are intensively discussing issues with the United States, Japan and China," he said.
He warned that the situation on the Korean Peninsula "is very complex and tending to deteriorate".
"To ensure its security, the DPRK is likely to keep the promises that its officials have made in their statements," he said.
"The impression is that the United States and the DPRK are far from finding approaches to a unanimous understanding," he said.
Losyukov also welcomed the trilateral talks between the DPRK, the United States and China, and vowed to support the talks.
