Qingdao Sets up Sailing Sub-committee for 2008 Olympics
The northern Chinese port city of Qingdao, which will host sailing events during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, set up a sub-committee on Wednesday of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG).
The northern Chinese port city of Qingdao, which will host sailing events during the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, set up a sub-committee on Wednesday of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympics (BOCOG).
The sub-committee, BOCOG's first sport committee to be established, will be in charge of all preparatory work concerning the 2008 Games' sailing competition.
Qingdao mayor Xia Geng said the founding of the sub-committee marked the official kick-off of the city's preparations for the 2008 Games. "We will endeavor to meet the International Olympic Committee's requirements of staging sailing events, and contributeto hosting of a best-ever Olympic Games," said Xia, also presidentof BOCOG's sailing sub-committee.
The sub-committee consists of 15 departments, including those for media and communications, sport, personnel training, engineering and environmental protection.
