Beijing, China's national capital, plans to set up a specialized area for international chain store or supermarket operators to purchase commodities in Xuanwu District, in the southern part of the city.

The district government hoped that once necessary facilities and utilities were completed, international retail giants would move their regional purchase departments to the area.

The center will be located in the Maliandao sub-district, currently one of the three largest tea trading centers in the country. The annual trade of tea in Maliandao exceeds 1 billion yuan (about 12 million US dollars).

Meanwhile, a number of domestic and international supermarkets have opened outlets in the area.

The international purchase center covers 82 hectares and a large number of commercial facilities will be built with a total floor space of 2.5 million square meters.
