CPPCC Leader Stresses Fight against SARS while Maintaining Economic Development

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said here Monday that the country must continue the fight severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) while maintaining economic development.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said here Monday that the country must continue the fight severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) while maintaining economic development.

Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks while hosting a CPPCC session here Monday.

Jia said CPPCC members and organizations at all levels had madecontributions to the fight against SARS and economic development with their consultative suggestions and contributions to SARS control efforts.

The CPPCC session has also decided to hold the second conference of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee from June 8 to 11.
