China to Build Container Ships for Syria

Three Chinese partners will cooperate in building four container ships for a Syrian company.

Three Chinese partners will cooperate in building four container ships for a Syrian company.

Sources from Yunnan Provincial Machinery Import and Export Company, one of the three partners, said that the orders were worth 54.4 million US dollars.

Two of the four container ships are multi-purpose container cargo ships with 10,000 dead weight tonnage (DWT) each, and the remaining two are also multi-purpose container cargo ships of 7,000 DWT.

According to the sources, the ships will be built according to the standards of BV's Register of Shipping in France and deliveredin 24 months.

The other partners are two shipbuilding businesses from east China's Jiangsu Province. Building of the container ships will start soon.
