Chinese Mainland Reports No New SARS Case (June 9)

The Chinese mainland reported no new SARS case and one new death from the disease between 10:00 a.m.June 8 and 10:00 a.m. June 9, the Ministry of Health said Monday.

The Chinese mainland reported no new SARS case and one new death from the disease between 10:00 a.m.June 8 and 10:00 a.m. June 9, the Ministry of Health said Monday.

The only death occurred in Guangdong Province, according to the Health Ministry's daily report. One suspected SARS case has also been reported in Guangdong Province.

Beijing reports no new cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) for the reporting period from 10:00 a.m. June 8 to 10:00 a.m. June 9, according to the Beijing Joint Anti-SARS Task Force on Monday.

The task force noted that the capital of Beijing has reported no new confirmed SARS cases and no new suspected SARS cases for two successive days.

From 10:00 am June 8 to 10:00 am June 9, the Chinese mainland also reported 106 misdiagnosed suspected cases, of which 99 were from Beijing, 2 each from Inner Mongolia and Jilin, and 1 each from Jiangsu, Guangdong and Shaanxi. By 10:00 am June 9, the Chinese mainland had a total of 559 suspected cases.

From 10:00 am May 21 to 10:00 am June 9, the Chinese mainland reported a total of 146 diagnosed SARS cases (including 23 new diagnosed cases and 123 patients who used to be suspected cases).

Of these figures, Beijing reported 18 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 89 suspected cases as SARS patients; Hebei reported 3 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 13 suspected cases as SARS patients; Shanxi reported 2 new diagnosed cases and confirmed 5 suspected cases as SARS patients; Inner Mongolia reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 8 suspected cases as SARS patients; Liaoning reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 4 suspected cases as SARS patients; Sichuan reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 3 suspected cases as SARS patients; Shanghai reported no new diagnosed case but confirmed 1 suspected case as SARS patient; Now 795 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals.

According to the statistics standard of WHO, by 10:00 am June 9, 7 provinces on the Chinese mainland had reported SARS cases. Shanghai had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 15 days; Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and Hebei had reported no new diagnosed case for more than 10 days; and Beijing and Liaoning had reported no new diagnosed case for 6 days.
