Israeli Prime Minister ArielSharon told a Likud convention Sunday that by no means would Israel accept the Palestinian demand for the right of return, nor would it waive its reservations on the roadmap peace plan. Speaking at the International Convention Center in Jerusalem,Sharon said "the repatriation of Palestinian refugees will not take place on Israeli soil" and "no Palestinian refugee will ever beallowed into Israel."

Sharon told the Likud convention that most of the Israeli publicwere supportive of his peace efforts, and "the terror war that was started against us 1,000 days ago has failed."

"I tell you today that the victory we aimed for is at hand," he declared.

Sharon repeated his condition of ending the attacks before Israel moves toward peace.

"We will not give anything as long as the terror, violence and incitement continues," he said, adding "but we will be prepared to make painful concessions for real peace and security." Sharon said, "I have made clear to the leaders of the international community, as well as the US and the Palestinians, that this cannot take place without a complete stop to all terrorism, violence and incitement."

Sharon praised Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas for stating publicly that violence must end.

"The terror regime of the Palestinians has been replaced by anew government that has stated before the whole world that it has abandoned the way of terror," Sharon said. "This is the first fruit of our victory," he added.

At Sunday's convention, Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz, also from the Likud party, said that no political advancements would be made if the Palestinians would not fight terrorism.
