China took formal anti-dumping measures on Friday against imports of caprolactam, a white crystalline cyclic amide used in the production of nylon, produced in Japan, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Russia by imposing anti-dumping duties on the product, the Ministry of Commerce announced.

In response to an appeal from its domestic industry, China launched an anti-dumping investigation on Dec. 7, 2001 and decidedto take temporary measures on Jan. 7, 2003.

The investigators concluded that dumping had taken place and that the imports had done substantial damage to the domestic industry.

The Ministry of Commerce considered that there was a direct causal relationship between the dumping and the damage, according to the final findings based on China's anti-dumping regulations.

The Ministry of Commerce determined that importers of caprolactam will pay anti-dumping taxes to Chinese customs for a period of five years. The anti-dumping tax rate ranges from 5 to 28 percent, according to the ministry.
