Abbas Describes His Meeting with Bush Positive
Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas described his meeting with US President George W. Bush in Aqaba, Jordan, as positive and extremely important, Al-Quds reported on Thursday.

In an interview with the Jerusalem-based daily, Abbas said Wednesday's meeting in Aqaba came in line with US-Palestinian talksin Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and touched the current situation and the future plans.
He said the meeting was topped by talks about creating a Palestinian state according to the timetable envisioned by the roadmap peace plan.
"The Palestinians are determined to establish an independent democratic Palestinian state that would be ruled by the Palestinianauthority," Abbas said.
The prime minister said he had explained to Bush the importance of releasing Palestinian political prisoners as well as dismantlingJewish settlements set up on the Palestinian territories.
Abbas reiterated the demand that Israel halt all its military operations in the Palestinian territories so as to create the rightatmosphere for the next phases and alleviate the Palestinians' suffering.
As for suicide bombings carried out against Israeli targets, Abbas said he had briefed the participants of the summit that he isclose to reaching a ceasefire agreement with Palestinian factions and resistance movements.
"The outcome of our meetings with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is positive, and we all share the same feelings ofresponsibility towards ending the ongoing violence in the Palestinian territories," Abbas said.
Bush held separate talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Abbas before they started three-way talks in Aqaba lateron Wednesday.
