China, Mongolia to Set up Partnership of Good-neighborliness, Mutual Trust

China and Mongolia announced on Thursday that they have agreed to establish a partnership of good-neighborliness and mutual trust and develop all-round mutually beneficial cooperation.

China and Mongolia announced on Thursday that they have agreed to establish a partnership of good-neighborliness and mutual trust and develop all-round mutually beneficial cooperation.

A joint declaration, issued at the end of a two-day state visitto Mongolia by Chinese President Hu Jintao, said China and Mongolia have agreed to establish and develop the partnership of good-neighborliness and mutual trust between them, in line with the spirits of the 1994 China-Mongolia treaty on friendship and cooperation, the 1998 joint declaration and the 2002 joint communique, as well as the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence.

The two countries also agreed in the declaration to expand friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between them in an all-round way and said they are ready to be forever "good neighbors, good partners and good friends."

Exchanges of top-level visits and contacts between the two countries is of importance to the steady development of China-Mongolia relations and the deepening of mutual understanding, the declaration said, adding that the top leaders of the two countriesshould carry on the tradition of frequent contacts and exchanges of visits between them.

On the meetings here between President Hu and Mongolian leaders,the declaration said they had an in-depth exchange of views on ways to further develop the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and on a wide range of issues concerningthe international and regional situation.

The Mongolian side reiterated that one of the top priorities ofits foreign policy is to develop all-round friendly relations and cooperation with China, while the Chinese side reaffirmed that to further strengthen and develop good-neighborly relations with Mongolia constitutes an important part of China's foreign policy toward its neighbors.

The two sides also reaffirmed that they respect each other's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and respect each other's choice of the path of development.

They agreed to enhance dialogue and cooperation between them onpolitical, economic and security affairs and handle through consultations any problems that may arise in bilateral relations.

The Chinese side supports Mongolia's nuclear-free zone status and its policy of allowing no deployment of foreign troops and nuclear arms and other weapons of mass destruction on its soil.

Both sides reiterated that they will not join any military or political alliances that are directed against the other side, and will not conclude with a third country any treaty and accord that may compromise the sovereignty and security of the other side.

The Mongolian side reiterated that the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China, that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory, and that the Taiwan issue is a domestic affair of China.

Mongolia expressed its support for China's principles of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems" on the Taiwan issue and said it will not support the so-called independence of Taiwan.
