Chinese Mainland Reports No New SARS Cases (June 4)
The Chinese mainland reported no new SARS cases and no new deaths from the disease between 10:00 a.m.June 3 and 10:00 a.m. June 4, the Ministry of Health said Wednesday.
There were no new SARS case and death from the disease on the Chinese mainland between 10:00 a.m. June 3 and 10:00 a.m. June 4, the Ministry of Health reported Wednesday.
It was the first day with no new SARS case and death since China started to release daily figures related to severe acute respiratory syndrome in April.
According to the Ministry, 116 SARS patients were discharged from hospital upon recovery in the 24-hour period.
Seventy-four of the discharged SARS patients were in Beijing; the rest included 10 in Hebei Province, 11 in neighboring Tianjin City, six in Shanxi Province, nine in Inner Mongolia, two each in Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces, and one each in Jilin and Gansu provinces.
In the 24-hour period, the Chinese mainland also reported four new suspected SARS cases -- two in Beijing, and one each in Guangdong and Sichuan provinces. The cumulative suspected cases stood at 908 by 10:00 a.m. June 4.
Meanwhile, 25 suspected SARS cases were ruled out in the period:eight in Beijing, seven in Inner Mongolia, four in Guangdong, three in Shanxi, and one each in Hebei, Liaoning and Fujian provinces.
In the 20 consecutive days from 10:00 a.m. May 16 to 10:00 a.m.June 4, the Chinese mainland reported 268 SARS cases, with 63 confirmed upon admission to hospital and 205 from previously reported suspected cases.
As of 10:00 a.m. June 4, there were 1,321 SARS patients hospitalized in the Chinese mainland.
According to the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), 12 provinces and regions in the Chinese mainland had recorded SARS cases as of 10:00 a.m. June 4. Of them, Tianjin, Jilin, Guangdong, Guangxi have had no new SARS case for more than 15 consecutive days; Hubei, Shanghai and Sichuan have had no new case for over 10 consecutive days; Shanxi and Inner Mongolia have had no new case for nine consecutive days; and Hebei has had no new case for six consecutive days.
The cumulative SARS cases on the Chinese mainland rose to 5,329;the number of patients discharged from hospital, 3,674; and the death toll, 334.
