Road Noise Pollution Alleviated in Beijing

Air quality has been improved and road noise pollution reduced during the past year in the Chinese capital, according to the "2002 Beijing Environment status Communique", which was officially issued on Tuesday.

Air quality has been improved and road noise pollution reduced during the past year in the Chinese capital, according to the "2002 Beijing Environment status Communique", which was officially issued on Tuesday.

According to the communique, Beijing had 203 days evaluated as excellent (level I) or fairly good (level II) in air quality during last year, an increase of 4.9 percent from the previous year.

A total of 293 roads and streets in Beijing, with the combined length of 596.1 kilometers, were under environmental and noise pollution supervision last year.
