Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee will travel to China on June 22, the first visit to the country by an Indian leader in a decade, the Press Trust of India reported.

The date was announced by Deputy Prime Minister L.K. Advani during his visit to Leh in the Jammu and Kashmir state bordering Pakistan and China, the news agency said.
Mr Vajpayee met Chinese President Hu Jintao for the first time on Saturday on the sidelines of the 300th anniversary celebrations of St Petersburg, Russia's former tsarist capital.
The two leaders the two leaders focused on expanding economic links between the two countries, which together represent more than a third of humanity and are both angling to join the Group of Eight in the next few years.
Mr Vajpayee's visit to China is expected to cap new efforts to foster friendship between the world's two most populous nations.
The last visit by an Indian prime minister to China was in 1993 by P.V. Narasimha Rao.
