The morning of May 28 saw the People's Court of the city's Tiexi District open on the lawn in a park in Shenyang, the capital of north China's Liaoning Province, attracting the attention of visitors.

Linjun, the presiding judge, said that last March, the court accepted two business contract cases. The prosecution consists of a factory from east China's Jiangsu Province which has filed suit against two local companies. The court date was set for May 28.

Lin said that the prosecutor is from Jiangsu, home to a number of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) patients. In addition, two representatives from the factory had recently traveled to Shenyang by train. They thus decided to move the court to the nearby park.

"We should ensure that the court's proceedings progress smoothly while at the same time taking adequate measures to prevent the transmission of SARS," said Lin.
