Heat Wave Death Toll Rises to 884 in South Indian State
The death toll in the current heat wave sweeping parts of the country reached 884 in Andhra Pradesh Sunday while it showed little signs of abating in northern India with the mercury rising to unbearable levels in Orissa.

With 89 more deaths reported in the past 24 hours, the toll in Andhra Pradesh was officially put at 884. Guntur alone has so far recorded 114 deaths as mercury soared to 48 degrees Celsius.
Parts of Orissa in east India lay reeling under the heat wave with Titlagarh registering 48.1 degree Celsius.
While the number of heat wave-related confirmed deaths in Orissa so far was officially stated to be 10, local officials saidthey were verifying reports of over 120 sun stroke deaths receivedfrom various sources.
The mercury, which touched 49.6 degrees Celsius at Titlagarh Saturday, dipped slightly to 48.1 degrees Celsius Sunday even as places like Sambhalpur (46.5 degrees Celsius) and Jharsuguda (46.0degrees Celsius) remained much above the normal.
