Extramarital affairs and domestic violence continue to be the main complaints from women in central China's Hunan Province.
The Hunan Women's Federation received some 10,274 letters of complaint in the first six months of this year, more than half of which were written by those suffering from such affairs, which seriously infringed on their legal rights and undermined their psychological and physical security and health.
Although China amended marital legislation in 2001 to guaranteefamily and marital rights, it still hard to deal with extramaritalaffairs, which has become a pervasive social problem in recent years.
The victims of such affairs are mainly women, and the affairs are usually linked to social issues such as the wife or husband's loss of work, according to the federation.
The federation, long engaged in the protection of women's rights, seeks to help victims through legal channels.
