China stronlgy opposes the signing by US Presidnet Bush of a Congresstional bill supporting Taiwan's bid to join the World Health Organization, said Chinese Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said, as part of China, Taiwan is not qualified to join the WHO, or participate in activities of WHO as an observer.
She said Taiwan enjoys the free flow of health information and the central government cares about the health of the Taiwan compatriots. The spokeswoman pointed out the ulterior aim of the Taiwan authorities to join the organization is to split the country.
She urged the United States to strictly abide by the "one china" policy, stop all the activities supporting Taiwan to join the WHO and not to create obstacles to the development of Sino-US relations.
