The water level of the Three Gorges reservoir reached the height of 100 meters on Friday, bringing the gigantic hydropower project one step closer to operational.

By 8:00 p.m. on Friday, The water level had risen to 100.3 meters, enlarging the reservoir's capacity to 2.3 billion cubic meters.
According to official sources, water storage will begin formally on June 1, with the water level rising no more than five meters daily during the 15-day storage period to ensure the normal navigation in the dam.
Drainage from the dam will be no less than 3,410 cubic meters per second to maintain sufficient water amount in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
A six-day preparation for water storage started on May 25, when dam outlets were closed to retain.
The water level is expected to reach the 135 meters by June 15.
