China plans to resume domestic travel from June and inbound tourism from July, according to the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA) on Friday.
Cantonese residents will be allowed to organize travel groups to Hong Kong and Macao from June. Other provinces should make their own decision on whether to resume provincial trips but are still forbidden to organize outbound trips.
Until the World Health Organization lifts its travel ban on some Chinese provinces, China will continue the effective measures to prevent the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Whether China's suffering tourism industry can recover and develop rapidly will depend on when China can overcome SARS, according to the administration. China's tourism industry should focus on strengthening sanitary and security measures, personnel training as well as improving service, it said.
