China and Russia on Tuesday advocated establishing a multi-polarized, just and democratic international order based on accepted international norms and said rational mutual relations should be set up among countries so that they can co-exist in harmony.
A joint declaration, signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said that both history and reality have showed that countries and people around the world should make joint efforts and strengthen international cooperation if they are to resolve global issues that have a direct bearing on international security, stability and common development, and are to meet common challenges.
Peace and development remains the themes of the present times and the world is far from peaceful, as traditional security threats have mingled with non-traditional ones, power politics and unilateralism pose a new threat to world stability and international terrorism has become a global threat and a common scourge, it said.
China and Russia maintain that a multi-polarized, just and democratic international order should be established on the basis of accepted international norms and that rational mutual relations among countries should be built so that harmony and co-existence can be achieved among them, the declaration said.
Countries around the world should work for common prosperity and they should set up mutual relations on the basis of respect for each other's interests and encouraging and developing economic links and cooperation between them, boost cultural exchanges, build mutual trust and coordination in the field of security and foster a new security concept based on equality, cooperation and readiness to address each other's concerns, it said.
Conflicts and disputes should be settled through dialogue and cooperation and efforts should be made to improve and strengthen the system governing international relations, guarantee the central role of the United Nations in the present-day world and promote diversification of models of development, it said.
China and Russia share a broad range of common interests in international and regional affairs, and their strategic partnership of cooperation, as an important factor in international relations, is of fundamental importance to international politics in the future, preserving peace and maintaining global security and stability, the declaration said.
The China-Russia partnership, and their collaboration at the United Nations and other multilateral forums, have made great contributions to the strengthening of international peace and security, and the diplomatic coordination between the two countries on a wide range of issues, conducted on a regular basis and through various channels and at different levels, has effectively helped the settlement of global and regional issues intoday's world, the declaration said.
The declaration said both sides agreed to continue their consultations and coordination in international affairs and are ready to work unremittingly with other countries concerned to achieve lasting peace and stability in the world and promote the democratization of international relations.
