Pakistan on Tuesday welcomed the Indian government's decision to release some Pakistani prisoners.

"This gesture is in response to Pakistan's announcement to release all Indian fishermen and 36 prisoners on humanitarian grounds," a Foreign Ministry spokesman said here.

On Monday, India announced release of 130 Pakistani civilian prisoners from Indian custody in a sign of the continuing diplomatic thaw.

"So far, 20 of them have been released and Consular Access granted for 335 detained fishermen and 20 civilian prisoners. All of them would be set free as soon as Indian authorities are ready to receive them," the Pakistan spokesman said.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman also expressed satisfaction that nIndia has accepted Pakistan's offer to resume bus service.

The service between Delhi and the Pakistani city of Lahore and other air, rail and road links were suspended after an attack on the Indian parliament in December 2001 that Delhi blamed on Pakistan-backed militants.

Referring to the package of measures announced by Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on May 6 to facilitate people to people contacts, the spokesman hoped India would soon respond positively on all of them to set the stage for resumption of a meaningful and composite dialogue for resolution of all disputes including Kashmir.
