The Beijing talks attended by China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States should continue to resolve the DPRK nuclear issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Friday.
Zhang made the remarks when asked to confirm a Japanese reporter's statement that China had agreed to extend the participants of Beijing talks from three parties to a six-nation framework.
She said that the Beijing talks, held in late April, were a good start for China, the DPRK and the US to resolve the DPRK nuclear issue, and that all parties had expressed the willingness to continue the talks.
"It is our basic stance that under the current circumstances, the continuation of the Beijing talks should be the priority," Zhang noted.
