Chinese women swept five singles quarter-final spots at the world table tennis championships on Saturday.

World top-ranked Chinese Zhang Yining, Wang Nan and Niu Jianfeng didn't meet much trouble in reaching the last eight as LiJu, former world number one who came back after taking a year off from the sport, had the better of Tie Yana from Hong Kong, China.

Chinese teenager Guo Yue made it to the quarter-finals after beating South Korean Suk Eun Mi in straight sets.

Top-ranked European Tamara Boros from Croatia employed her lethal topspin attacks to beat Romanian Otilia Badescu in a gripping seven-setter.

Boros, ranked fifth in the world, came from two sets down to overcome the 32nd-ranked Romanian 9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-9, 11-8, 10-12, 11-4.

She will take on Jun Gao Chang of the United States, who routed South Korean Kim Kyung Ah 4-0.

Japan's child prodigy Ai Fukuhara will need more time off high school after beating South Korean Lee Eun Sil 4-2 to make it to the quarter-finals.
