Chinese, Swiss FMs Hold Talks in Beijing
China will make joint efforts with Switzerland to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Friday.
China will make joint efforts with Switzerland to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Friday.
Li made the remarks while holding talks with visiting Swiss Federal Councilor and head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Micheline Calmy-Ray in Beijing.
Li said the relationship between China and Switzerland has progressed smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic ties 53 years ago.
During the last half year, the two sides have sped up their cooperation in various fields like trade and economy, science and technology, culture and education, bringing forth a bright future for the bilateral cooperative ties, said Li.
Li also expressed appreciation of the Swiss government's adherence to the "one-China" policy over the years.
Calmy-Ray agreed with Li's evaluation of Sino-Swiss relations. She said the Swiss government always attaches great attention to the relationship with China, and hopes the two countries can strengthen cooperation in politics, trade and economy and tourism as well as the fight against illegal immigration.
Calmy-Ray expressed her appreciation of the Chinese government's efforts in the fight against SARS, and said she believed China will ultimately win the combat. She brought with her a donation from Switzerland to support China's SARS fight.
Both sides also exchanged ideas on some international issues ofcommon concern.
Calmy-Ray and her party arrived in Beijing Friday morning for avisit to China at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing.
