The Japanese government shoulders the unshirkable responsibility of solving the issue of biochemical weapons left in China and China required the Japanese side to deal with the issue properly, said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue Friday.
On May 15, a Tokyo court ruled in favor of Japan in the first-instance trial of a lawsuit accusing Japan of abandoning biochemical weapons during the war invading China.
The plaintiffs, Zhang Yan, and other four other Chinese from Baiquan County of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, lost the lawsuit on the grounds that the state is not responsible for their compensation.
When asked to comment on the case, Zhang said Japan, disregarding international conventions, made experiments and used biochemical weapons many times during its invasion into China and committed inhumane crimes against the Chinese people.
Before being defeated, the Japanese army abandoned large amounts of biochemical weapons in China and brought new damage to the Chinese people after the war, the spokeswoman said, noting that the responsibility for solving this issues lies on the shoulders of the Japanese government.
Zhang said the Chinese government has repeatedly made clear to the Japanese government its stance on the issue of Japanese biochemical weapons abandoned in China.
The Chinese government once again required that the Japanese side adopt a responsible attitude to history and earnestly and properly solve the issue, Zhang added.
