Afghanistan Hopes to Share China's Experience in Developing Economy: Vice-president

Afghan Vice-President Namatullah Sharani has said that his country hopes to share China's experience of economic development and expand bilateral cooperation in Afghanistan's ongoing reconstruction process.

Afghan Vice-President Namatullah Sharani has said that his country hopes to share China's experience of economic development and expand bilateral cooperation in Afghanistan's ongoing reconstruction process.

"China is a good neighbor of Afghanistan. We sincerely appreciate the great achievements China has made in its economic development," Sharani said here Thursday in an interview with Xinhua on the eve of his visit to China.

The Afghan vice-president is scheduled to pay a five-day official goodwill visit to China starting on Monday at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Zeng Qinghong.

Specific projects of bilateral cooperation, especially for the reconstruction in Afghanistan, are expected to be discussed with Chinese leaders during his upcoming visit, Sharani said.

"China is experienced in light and handicraft industries. We hope that such experience and knowledge could benefit Afghanistan in its post-war reconstruction," he added.

China has a number of assistance projects in Afghanistan, including the Parwan Irrigation Project to the north of Kabul and a hospital in the southern city of Kandahar, Sharani said, adding that China is currently active in Afghanistan to support its reconstruction.

Sharani, who is in charge of making Afghanistan's new constitution and rehabilitating its war-torn educational system, said he would also talk with Chinese leaders about the restorationof the bilateral students exchange program between the two countries.

Saying that friendship between Afghanistan and China could be traced back to ancient times when Afghanistan was a bridge on the Silk Road linking China with Europe, the vice-president reiteratedthat his government will continue to cooperate with China in fighting the so-called Eastern Turkistan Movement terrorist group.

"The policy of the Afghan government and people is against any form of terrorism in anywhere of the world," he said.
