US President George W. Bush welcomed Thursday Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to his Texas ranch for talks focusing on the nuclear issue of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Koizumi, who arrived at the ranch late Thursday, will stay overnight at the ranch and hold talks with Bush Friday morning.

The Japanese prime minister has said the DPRK nuclear issue must be resolved peacefully and called on the Bush administration to work with its Asian allies for a peaceful solution.

Bush and Koizumi are also expected to discuss postwar reconstruction in Iraq and Afghanistan before the Japanese leader leaves the ranch later Friday for a visit to the Middle East.
