Standard Chartered Sets up Education Trust for Son of Deceased Medical Worker

Standard Chartered Bank said Wednesday it has set up an education trust for the son of Lau WingKai to help the child enjoy free education all the way from kindergarten to completion of university studies.

Standard Chartered Bank said Wednesday it has set up an education trust for the son of Lau WingKai to help the child enjoy free education all the way from kindergarten to completion of university studies.

Peter Wong, director of the bank, said, "We want to find a way to salute to Mr. Lau Wing Kai, a very brave medical nurse who gavehis life for other people."

"He represents the fighting spirit of Hong Kong medical workerswho have been battling SARS round the clock since the outbreak of the disease in mid-March," Wong said.

Tuen Mun Hospital nurse Lau Wing Kai, 38, is the first front-line medical worker in Hong Kong who was killed by SARS when treating SARS patients. He has a son who is only six months.

The education trust will donate to the child in four installments over the next two decades upon his entry to kindergarten, primary school, secondary school and university, respectively.
